About: With a yearly cadence, it’s easy for Advent songs—many with rich old histories—to lose their bite and meaning. I wanted to create a new aural lens to hear these melodies—one that encourages the listener to meditate on each note, on each lyric. To slow down, to consider the deep truths within them.

So, I sat at my piano and played through some of my favorite Advent hymns, unhurried, lingering on or embellishing the parts that pulled me in. I scraped and tapped on the piano’s strings, and even recorded a bit of my voice. Then I played around with these recordings, chopping, layering, rearranging, tweaking—creating whole ambient worlds from just a few sonic inputs.
